About Camp Kigali Memorial

Camp Kigali was the site of the April 1994 murder of ten Belgian UN peacekeepers who had been guarding Prime Minister Uwilingiyimana. Their deaths precipitated the UN's withdrawal from Rwanda. The preserved barracks now host a small, powerful memorial with ten stone columns — one per soldier, each bearing their age in vertical notches.
