   Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), where your AECONS representative meets you for the transfer to your overnight hotel in Arusha — the gateway city to Tanzania's northern circuit, sitting in the shadow of Mount Meru. The afternoon is yours to settle in, freshen up, and absorb the first sights and sounds of East Africa: the red-dust roads, the vendors selling Maasai beadwork, the startling clarity of the highland air. In the evening your private guide joins you for a relaxed dinner and safari briefing, walking you through your itinerary, introducing you to the terrain you will cross, and building anticipation for the flight into the Serengeti the following morning.

   Fly into the Serengeti — Afternoon Game Drive

   After an early breakfast you transfer to Arusha Airport for your light-aircraft flight to the Serengeti — roughly 45 minutes of breathtaking views as the highland farmlands give way to the Ngorongoro highlands and then the endless ochre-and-green expanse of the plains below. Your guide and vehicle are waiting at the bush airstrip, and your first game drive begins almost the moment the propeller stops. The Central Serengeti's iconic kopje-studded grasslands and the Seronera River valley are among the richest year-round big-cat habitats on earth; expect leopard lounging in sausage trees and lion prides resting in the midday heat. You reach camp in time for a sundowner on the deck as the sky ignites in shades of amber and rose.

   A gentle wake-up call before 5 a.m. brings you to one of the most romantic experiences in Africa: climbing into the balloon basket in the cool darkness and rising silently as the Serengeti comes alive below. For roughly an hour your pilot drifts you over riverine forest, open grassland, and the winding threads of seasonal luggas while you spot herds from above — an entirely different and deeply intimate perspective on the ecosystem.    Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater Rim

   A morning game drive en route to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area ensures you make the most of every hour on the Serengeti before the road begins to climb. The drive west toward the crater highlands takes you through Maasai pasturelands and acacia-studded hills, with the great caldera revealing itself spectacularly as you crest the rim road at roughly 2,300 metres. Check in to your crater-rim lodge — properties like the Ngorongoro Crater Lodge or Lemala Ngorongoro perch on the crater's edge with uninterrupted views across the misty 19-kilometre-wide caldera.    Ngorongoro Crater Descent — Departure to Arusha

   Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater floor for a morning game drive through one of Africa's most concentrated wildlife habitats: a 260-square-kilometre natural amphitheatre that shelters an estimated 25,000 large animals, including rare black rhino, enormous lion prides with densities found nowhere else, vast herds of wildebeest and zebra that are permanent residents, and huge flocks of flamingos gilding the shallow soda lake. After a picnic lunch beside the hippo pool at Lake Magadi, ascend the crater wall and make your way to Arusha — arriving in the late afternoon for your onward international flight, or overnight as required.
