   Full Day in Amboseli — Elephants and Kilimanjaro

   A full day dedicated to Amboseli's celebrated elephant population — one of the most studied in Africa, with some breeding herds exceeding 50 individuals. Morning drives take you to the swamp fringes near Enkongo Narok, where elephants wade chest-deep through papyrus and the mountain typically emerges cloud-free at dawn for that quintessential photograph. An afternoon drive explores the open yellow-fever acacia woodland, where lion, cheetah, and large herds of wildebeest and zebra are frequently encountered alongside a remarkable 400+ bird species including the Amboseli race of yellow-necked spurfowl.

   Amboseli to Tsavo West — Chyulu Hills Crossing

   Departing Amboseli after an early breakfast, the route crosses the Kimana corridor and passes the edge of the Chyulu Hills — a chain of young, densely forested volcanic cones rising abruptly from the plains — before descending into Tsavo West through the Chyulu Gate. The drive itself is spectacular, revealing sweeping views back to Kilimanjaro and forward to the Ngulia Hills. You arrive at your lodge in time for a late lunch and an afternoon game drive through classic Tsavo West thornbush country, where kudu, gerenuk, and lesser kudu emerge at dusk.

   Tsavo West — Mzima Springs and Shetani Lava

   Tsavo West's twin highlights fill the day. Morning begins at Mzima Springs, where you descend into an underwater observation bunker to watch hippos drift weightlessly and barbel fish school in crystalline water fed by Kilimanjaro's snowmelt filtered through the Chyulu volcanic aquifer. Crocodiles bask on the banks above. The afternoon takes you across the Shetani lava fields — a jet-black landscape frozen mid-flow roughly 200 years ago, hauntingly beautiful in the late-afternoon light — before a sundowner drive along the Tsavo River where elephant, buffalo, and lion are regularly active at dusk.

   Tsavo West to Tsavo East — Crossing the Athi River

   The morning game drive in Tsavo West often rewards with early-light predator activity along the river circuits before you cross through the Tsavo Gate and over the Athi River bridge into Tsavo East National Park. The landscape shifts instantly — redder soils, drier thornbush, and the vast flatness of one of Kenya's wildest and least-crowded parks. En route to your camp you pass the historic Lugard's Falls, a dramatic rapid where the Galana River squeezes through a narrow gorge carved by millennia of erosion, and often find Nile crocodiles basking on the adjacent rocks.

   Full Day in Tsavo East — Red Elephants and Galana River

   Tsavo East is Kenya's largest national park and its elephant herds — coated in the park's distinctive red murram dust — are among the most dramatic anywhere in Africa. A full-day circuit follows the Galana River, where concentrations of game gather year-round: herds of buffalo crossing at the shallows, pods of hippo grunting in the deeper pools, and lion and leopard patrolling the dense riverine thicket. The afternoon drive heads toward the Yatta Plateau escarpment — a 290-kilometre solidified lava flow that forms a natural dark ridge along the northern horizon — for landscape photography and a search for oryx, gerenuk, and lesser kudu in the acacia scrub below.

7. 7

   Tsavo East — Final Morning Drive and Journey to the Coast or Nairobi

   An early sunrise game drive makes the most of the golden morning light in Tsavo East, often the quietest and most rewarding hour for predator and elephant sightings along the Voi River circuit. After a brunch back at the lodge, guests depart for either Mombasa (approximately a two-hour drive via the Bachuma Gate and Mombasa highway) for a beach extension, or head north back toward Nairobi (approximately four to five hours). Both routes offer striking views of the Taita Hills on the horizon as you leave the park.

   Departure — Mombasa or Nairobi

   A leisurely morning with time to enjoy breakfast at your hotel before your driver transfers you to Moi International Airport in Mombasa or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi for your onward or international flight. Your driver-guide will confirm departure timings the previous evening to ensure a comfortable and timely journey to the airport, marking the end of a safari that has taken you through three of Kenya's most celebrated wilderness areas.
