Arrival in Entebbe & Transfer to Lake Mburo
Your driver-guide meets you at Entebbe International Airport and you set off southwest on the Masaka highway, stopping at the equator for the classic straddling-two-hemispheres photo before the road winds through banana-draped hills and small trading centres. After roughly four hours, the acacia woodland signals your arrival at Lake Mburo National Park, where the afternoon is yours to relax at the lodge, take in your first African sunset over the lake, and prepare for tomorrow's adventures.

Lake Mburo — Walking Safari & Evening Boat Ride
Rise before breakfast for an early guided walking safari — one of the few opportunities in Uganda to explore on foot inside a national park — tracking zebra, impala, topi and eland through patches of fever-tree forest and rocky kopjes. After a lodge lunch, your afternoon boat ride on Lake Mburo glides past papyrus islands alive with fish eagles, African jacanas and open-billed storks, while hippos surface with lazy inquisitiveness and Nile crocodiles bask on mudflats just metres from the bow. Return to the lodge in time for sundowners on the deck as warthogs trot past in the last golden light.

Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park — Afternoon Game Drive
After an early breakfast you depart westward past Mbarara town, and the landscape gradually opens into the broad, steaming floor of the Albertine Rift Valley with views of the Rwenzori Mountains — Africa's fabled 'Mountains of the Moon' — floating on the western horizon if the clouds permit. You enter Queen Elizabeth National Park through the Mweya peninsula, arriving in time for a thorough afternoon game drive across the Kasenyi Plains where large buffalo herds and Uganda kob gather year-round, and lion prides are frequently spotted in the late afternoon shade. Dinner at the lodge overlooks the shimmering expanse of the Kazinga Channel.

Queen Elizabeth — Kazinga Channel Cruise & Kasenyi Plains
A morning game drive across the Kasenyi Plains targets the resident lion prides and large elephant herds that move between Lake George's shores and the open grassland — it is not unusual to encounter leopard resting in the sparse acacias at this hour. The highlight of the day is the early-afternoon two-hour Kazinga Channel boat cruise, one of Uganda's great wildlife spectacles: the shallow banks are lined with hundreds of hippos, enormous Nile crocodiles, elephant drinking, and an astonishing parade of waterbirds including the iconic African skimmer, pink-backed pelican and great white pelican. Return to the lodge mid-afternoon for leisure time before a guided sundowner walk on the Mweya Peninsula.

Ishasha — Tree-Climbing Lions & Drive to Bwindi
An early departure takes you south through the Maramagambo Forest corridor and into the remote Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth, where scattered fig trees and grassy plains along the Tanzania border are the haunt of one of Africa's most celebrated wildlife curiosities — lions that spend their days draped in the upper branches of giant fig trees, surveying the Uganda kob herds below. After spending time observing and photographing these extraordinary animals, you continue south and upward through tea estates and terraced hillsides, climbing into the cool highlands of Bwindi, arriving at your forest-edge lodge in time for a briefing on tomorrow's gorilla trek and an early night.

Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
This is the day the entire journey has been building towards. After an early breakfast you transfer to the park headquarters for a pre-trek briefing from Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers, who assign your group to a habituated gorilla family and outline tracking etiquette. The trek itself can take anywhere from one to five hours depending on where the gorillas have settled overnight, moving through dense jungle on trails carved by the gorillas themselves — a world of dripping moss, giant hagenia trees and the calls of Albertine Rift endemics overhead. When you reach the family, you spend a permitted sixty minutes observing in hushed awe as silverbacks recline in their midday nests, mothers groom their infants, and curious juveniles tumble and play just metres from where you stand; this hour is routinely described by guests as a defining life experience. Return to the lodge for a celebratory lunch, and the afternoon is free to rest and reflect.

Batwa Cultural Experience & Forest Birding
The morning belongs to Bwindi's remarkable avifauna — the forest is an Albertine Rift Endemic Bird Area and a serious tick for birders, harbouring the African green broadbill, Shelley's crimsonwing, short-tailed warbler and over 350 species in total. In the late morning you join the Batwa Cultural Experience, spending time with community members who share their ancestral forest knowledge, demonstrate traditional honey-gathering techniques, and perform the songs and dances that connect them to Bwindi's deep history; the experience is run in partnership with the Batwa community and proceeds support local livelihoods. The afternoon offers a gentle forest edge walk or time at the lodge before a final dinner under the Bwindi stars.

Return Drive to Entebbe — Departure
After a final forest-view breakfast, you begin the scenic return journey northeast toward Entebbe — a long but rewarding drive (approximately seven to eight hours) through the rolling hills of western Uganda, passing through Kabale's terraced crater lakes and the bustling town of Mbarara. Your driver-guide will stop for craft markets, fuel and lunch en route, delivering you to Entebbe in the early evening in good time for international departures, or for an overnight in Entebbe if your flight is the following morning.
